What is Azure SQL Edge?

Azure SQL Edge is an optimized relational database engine geared for IoT and IoT Edge deployments.

It simplifies IoT infrastructure by offering streaming, storage, and analytics all in one platform and is a limited edition of SQL Server with less functionality to make it lighter to run.

The options are very straight-forward; you get to pick between a One Year term and a Three Year term options:

The discounts are as follows (discount compared to Retail Pay-As-You-Go):

  • Standard – One Year – 16%
  • Standard – Three Year – 50%

The reservation discount for this service for the three year option looks quite good to me if you are able to commit to using this for three years!
